Alarmingly, toxins are ever present in our environment. If you breathe air, eat food, or drink water, toxins are entering your body. These stealth killers go into our bodies, but many of them do not come back out! They literally get stuck in the deep tissues of our bodies in the liver, heart, brain, kidneys, and bones causing diseases of all sorts such as cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer’s.
Also disturbing is the fact that newer, man-made chemicals are being developed annually, by the thousands. Many of these man-made chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides and industrial chemicals are listed by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) as poisons. If you have ever read the dire warning labels on insecticides and weed killers, you’ll see how harmful they can be when exposed to humans.
Not by coincidence, many of these chemicals are carcinogenic. OSHA just last month added numerous new chemicals to their list of carcinogens including many toxins we are exposed to daily, such as formaldehyde and styrene. (Formaldehyde may be found in household products, disinfectants, glues, adhesion, and building materials including hard-pressed woods such as particle board and plywood. Styrene may be found in boats, tubs, showers, and Styrofoam.)
Concomitantly, just as we are seeing an increase in chemical toxins in our environment, we are also seeing a rise in cancer rates. Since President Nixon declared war to stop cancer in 1971, the incidence of cancer has actually risen 78%. This is deplorable, indicating we are doing something which creates our own diseases. It all may sound hopeless or overwhelming, but it isn’t. There are ways to safeguard your health by becoming better informed.
At The Renewal Point, we suggest testing for toxins prior to developing potential organ damage or disease. If toxins are found, we can help you devise a plan to pull these chemicals and heavy metals out, restoring your body to clean, healthy function.
We strongly recommend you do toxic screenings prior to symptoms. Unfortunately, many times we do not see a patient until after they have been diagnosed with diseases. As with so many health issues, early proactive care is the best approach for your health—and that’s what we specialize in at The Renewal Point.
Let me give you an example. J.P. is a 50 year-old female who came to us complaining of memory loss. She feared developing Alzheimer’s, as her dad did, at an early age. A simple test revealed that her lead level was 40 times the safe limit. Knowing that lead causes brain degeneration, we prescribed a treatment program of chelation to remove the lead, which restored J.P.’s memory to normal.
The important thing to know is that you cannot see, smell or taste most of these stealth chemicals, nor can you feel their effects until they begin to cause disease. That’s right. Unfortunately, most people do not know they are affected by toxins until they have organ system damage, i.e. cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, etc.
Some common toxins include:
- Mercury (includes tuna fish and dental amalgams)
- Phthalates (plastics, household containers)
- Pesticides (food and juices from grocery stores)
- Benzene (gasoline and other fuels)
- Toluene (household polishers and cleaners)
- Styrene (styrofoam in bathtubs and boats)
Chances are you’ve been exposed to many chemicals that are potentially very toxic to your system. If you are experiencing symptoms such as cardiovascular disease, neurological problems, fatigue or cancer, you should be checked and tested to see if you have toxins in your system. At The Renewal Point we make the process easy from start to finish. We will evaluate you, test you, and then set in place a plan to remove toxins. And then you can get on with your life, not burdening your body with all those hazardous chemicals. You’re worth it, don’t you think?
While Googling women’s health topics I came upon the usual quick fixes, miracle creams and over-hyped, questionable treatments, as well as many reputable practitioners. It was there I saw the words “The Hormone Wizard”. It’s a clever name for women seeking answers and relief for the often-mysterious health challenge known as menopause. If you’re seeking your own hormone “wizard” for your symptoms (mood swings, sleeping difficulties, sexual problems, hot flashes, memory loss, weight gain), let the Renewal Point show you how.
First, just a little history. Our understanding of women’s health – particularly the role hormones play – has grown exponentially over the years. Did you know that in 1898 German doctors fed cow ovaries to a woman who was suffering from hot flashes after her own ovaries had been removed? I’m sure women (and most cows) are happy that treatment is no longer used. Fast forward to the ‘60s and the promise of hormone therapy came into full bloom with no mention of the side effects synthetic hormones can cause. When a woman turned a certain age she was given Premarin or Prempro and told to have a good life.
If you’re seeking your own hormone “wizard” for your symptoms (mood swings, sleeping difficulties, sexual problems, hot flashes, memory loss, weight gain), let The Renewal Point show you how.
But, if you’re like most women, you’ve no doubt read the often confusing and contradictory studies about traditional HRT. It’s like you need a wizard of sorts to help you magically find your way and provide the answers.
At The Renewal Point we don’t have a magic wand. Instead we have real medicine, real science and over 20 years of treating women going through menopause. We do that by offering a personalized plan that takes into account the fact that as far as hormone balancing goes, one size does not fit all. Your hormones are as different and as unique as your fingerprint. We are able to measure those differences in blood, saliva or urine tests to find the imbalances. We then use the “detect and correct” method for adding back safe, natural bio-identical hormones. Most importantly, we balance all the hormones in order to have an optimal response.
Hormones work much like the instruments in an orchestra. If one of these instruments is out of tune, it throws the entire concert off. Here is a list of some of the more important “players”…
- Thyroid – Energy, enthusiasm, weight control
- Adrenal – Cortisol and DHEA (sometimes the most pesky and critical to balance) help you manage stress, fatigue and moodiness
- Gonadal – Estradiol, Progesterone, Testosterone: femininity or masculinity, sexuality, brain function, skin, vaginal moisture, orgasm
- Pituitary – Growth hormones: probably the number one anti-aging hormone
- Brain Hormones – Seratonin, Dopamine, etc: communication central; controls all aspects of health (joy, brain power, memory, weight control, sugar and carb cravings)
Here’s the story of a woman who came into the Renewal Point. Shelly was 55, married, the mother of two, and grandmother of three when we met in my office. She told me that her life should be happy and pleasant, but unfortunately it was not. She previously had a hysterectomy, tended to experience carb cravings and had a hunger for fast food, drank two glasses of wine per day, exercised three times per week, took multi-vitamins and had tried Premarin in the past, but discontinued because of the side effects.
She also complained of weight gain, feeling “flabby”, vaginal dryness and a lack of sex drive. She experienced some emotional symptoms as well; poor sleep, irritability, hot flashes, a lack of mental focus and low energy. Does this sound like you?
We ran comprehensive tests and her labs revealed multiple hormone abnormalities that involved her thyroid, insulin, testosterone, estrogen, DHEA and growth hormone levels. Armed with that information, we were able to turn her life around by balancing her hormones into optimal levels. Consequently, all of her emotional symptoms and complaints disappeared.
In addition, Shelly lost 30 pounds, sleeps like a baby, and now enjoys her life. Her sex life has been restored, she experiences emotional wellbeing, and has more than enough energy left at the end of the day to play with the grandkids.
What magic did we perform at Renewal Point? No magic wand was used! What we did for Shelly was a comprehensive evaluation followed by thorough testing, completed with bio-identical hormones. And that’s what we can offer you as well. Come to one of our free seminars and see what we’re all about, visit our office and ask all the questions you may have.
It’s warm weather time in Florida. We’re heading to the beach, lounging by the pool, going on vacation. Also about this time you start seeing ads with a familiar refrain: “It’s swimsuit season! Time to get in shape!” And that means for so many women anxiety, frustration, even fear.
As a result of this annual event, some of you may be thinking, “Ugh, I dread putting that suit on,” or “Oh no, I look terrible in my bathing suit…” To that you might be also saying, “I’m going on a diet TODAY!”
At The Renewal Point, we’re here to help you with your weight loss goals, but it means a lot more than getting you into your itsy bitsy teeny weenie yellow polka dot…you get the point. For sure, a weight loss program should have you lose the inches from your belly and thighs while trimming the arms and legs but why not get more? Why not also revitalize and improve your overall health while you lose weight? Besides, those “quick-fix swimsuit diets” may give you fast results, but chances are you’ll be groaning again next spring unless you address the underlying issues. And that’s what we do here at The Renewal Point.
What we’ve found — having treated women (and men) at Renewal Point for many years — is that almost everyone who has a weight problem has hidden imbalances forcing the body to work against itself. And this makes it practically impossible to lose weight. Taking a comprehensive approach to weight loss at The Renewal Point, we use a “detect and correct” method in order to shed those unnecessary pounds.
Tests are performed to check for metabolic imbalances. Then, when detected, we make a plan for correction of these imbalances combining it with a medically-supervised weight loss program. When hormones such as insulin, thyroid, leptin and cortisol are balanced, weight loss is accomplished more easily and with a long-term effect. Without balancing these processes, it’s virtually impossible to sustain a healthy body and lose weight at the same time.
At The Renewal Point’s safe, medically-based physician’s office, we develop a plan for not only shedding the unnecessary pounds, but also a life-long health program. We look at your health — not just your waistline — in order to have you live a longer higher quality of life…And yes, that includes being slimmer, but also with more energy, better sexuality, improved brain power, more restful sleep and younger-looking skin.
Here’s the story of one of our recent patients. Marilyn, a 55-year old woman with two children and three grandchildren had put on 30 pounds over the last few years. She came to The Renewal Point interested in peeling off the 30 pounds while trying to get fit for the summer. Having tried other programs, she was tired of cardboard food, feeling hungry and irritable all the time, and gaining the weight back shortly after completing the program. She wasn’t sleeping well, her sex drive had gone “bye-bye” and her mood had changed for the worse. After testing, multiple metabolic problems were uncovered, which shed light on the reason it was so difficult for Marilyn to lose weight.
In our medically-guided program, she was not only able to lose the pounds she wanted in two short months, but lots of bonuses were included. Because of balancing her hormones, she now has her energy back, is sexually on target, and is sleeping peacefully through the night. Her health markers have improved as well, and her cholesterol, blood pressure and osteoporosis are all under control.
Remember: It’s not just about the bathing suit, it’s about looking good with great health all year-round! Why not come to one of our upcoming seminars and find out for yourself.
There’s nothing funny about toxins but they’re definitely scary and they are out to get you. And no, this isn’t a scene from a ‘50s horror movie. Truth is we hear more and more every day about toxins in our environment. They come in all forms and come at us in many ways. Recent headlines bear this out: Chinese drywall, BPA in water bottles, chemicals released by microwaving plastics, chemicals in cosmetics and toxic gas from dry cleaning. While our west coast is not a place where you see smokestacks and urban smog, those brilliant green and weed-free lawns we favor so much can actually be putting your health in serious jeopardy.
Okay, you say, this is what comes with progress and it’s the price we pay for the conveniences we have and enjoy. But hold that thought for a minute. What if those conveniences are contributing to poor health and slowly robbing you of your vitality? What if they’re causing your body to age while opening the door to a host of ailments?
Seven billion pounds of environmental toxins are being dumped into our air and water each year. These heavy metals, chemicals and herbicides and pesticides then enter our bodies – stockpiling in our brain, heart, bones, liver and other organs — literally stealing our health.
Toxins are now tracked as a major cause of heart disease, cancer and neurological problems such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, tremors, memory loss, depression, weight gain and many other devastating conditions.
Can anything be done? Can we reverse the damage to our bodies? To answer both questions – a resounding yes! At the Renewal Point, we prescribe and treat toxicity by what we call the “detect and correct” method of diagnosis and treatment.
Here’s an example: M.B, a young woman, came into Renewal Point having had a long exposure history of working around sports cars, M.B. had experienced an obvious acute decrease in her mental faculties: memory loss, fuzzy thinking, and the inability to focus.
A simple, quick and painless test revealed that her body was burdened with lead toxicity. Lead, a leading toxin in humans, is directly related to brain deterioration. A technique called chelation, an FDA-approved procedure, was prescribed for M.B. Through chelation we were literally able to pull the lead from her body, flushing it out much like Drain-o unclogs our sinks.
It is critical that testing be done correctly using state of the art equipment. M.B. had been checked by her physician using routine blood exams, which were reported as normal prior to visiting the Renewal Point office. After we administered appropriate medical treatment with chelation therapy, she is now back on track and able to live a healthy and productive life.
Dr. Dan Watts and his staff are trained and experienced in handling cases of toxicity. Dr Watts is one of only a few hundred doctors in the United States who are Board Certified in Metal Toxicology.
About Chelation Therapy
- Chelating agents have been used in medicine for over 70 years.
- Mercury, lead, and cadmium cannot be metabolized by the body and, if accumulated, can cause toxic effects by interfering with various physiological functions. These substances called heavy metals are poisonous to our bodies.
- Calcium-disodium EDTA chelation is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating lead poisoning and heavy metal toxicity.
- Chelation therapy is used as a treatment for acute and chronic mercury, iron, arsenic, lead, uranium, plutonium and other forms of toxic metal poisoning. The chelating agent may be administered intravenously, intramuscularly, or orally, depending on the agent and the type of poisoning.

Whether or not to fast is a question that seems to be on many of my patient’s minds and with very good reason — there is a lot of conflicting information in the media and on the web when it comes to this question. For the majority of the population, fasting is a healthy and natural process and I recommend it to most of my patients as a part of their healthy lifestyle.
However, I want to be clear that fasting is not for everyone and also can be risky if executed incorrectly. For this reason, I recommend that fasting, particularly your first fast, should be done only after receiving guidance from a qualified health care professional.
I want to again emphasize that it should be used only periodically, as part of a healthy diet. Fasting does not mean eliminating calories completely; the number of calories recommended for consumption each day will be dependent on the health and daily activities of the person. It is very dangerous to use it as part of a binge and purge cycle as this will have very negative effects on your metabolic rate, heart, and immune system.
Beginning around 1975, numerous articles regarding this topic have been published in medical and scientific journals, such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Toxicologic Pathology, and the Journal of Neuroscience. These articles reported the benefits listed below.
Benefits of Fasting
- Raise growth hormone levels
- Lose weight/trim fat
- Decrease sugar and carbohydrate cravings
- Improve immune system
- Increase life span
- Reduce risk for heart disease, stroke & diabetes
- Reduce risk for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s
- Reduce risk of cancer and liver disease
Most of us remember when we were at our “best” – when physical limitations were more about “guts” than they were about strength, flexibility or stamina. We would take on any challenge offered up by our buddies. We could stay up all night just for the fun of it. We tried new things because they looked fun and we laughed at our pals when they failed with heroic attempts. And all the while, never did a bruise, a scrape or even a broken bone deter us from taking on the next challenge once it was brought to our attention.
Now think for a second. How long ago was that for you?
Somewhere in life we begin to “play it safe”. We stop trying new things, taking on the dares of our peers and testing our physical acumen. We surrender to “watching the kids do it” or making excuses for it – like bad knees, an old football injury or “something else” we have to do at the time. If prompted or prodded in any way we might quickly change the subject and reflect back on the time we experienced the [fill in here], in an attempt to somehow say, “You know, I was able to go for it like that at one time in my life…even though you can’t see it now.”
And this transition – from taking on any seductive opportunity to demonstrate physical expression, to waving off all inviters – is one of the many beginnings to the end of healthy living.
Now let’s be clear – there is really no need try to ride a bicycle down the nearest hand rail by the steps of the school or to try a double back flip off the roof into your six year old’s plastic swimming pool. But it does make a lot of sense to explore new physical challenges regularly – wherever you are in life, right now.
And what defines “physical challenge”? It might be walking around the block, or preparing for a 20 mile walk-a-thon or walking across America. It can take the form of starting an exercise program, being more regular in one or entering a fitness challenge at your local gym. Or it could be learning to swim, working your way up to swimming a mile or entering the next Masters Swim competition. Rank beginner to high flier, there is always a new and more challenging place to strive physically.
And at whatever level you start, there IS significant value in looking for and embracing new physical feats.
First, there is the value seen in a shift in your outlook on life. Putting your body and mind through physically challenging – or even demanding – activities literally trains your mind to be open to new ideas, new discoveries and new opportunities. You’ll find yourself seeking fulfillment in the joy of simply exploring – rather than trying to relive old, worn out stories.
Next, regularly challenging yourself physically trains and builds your self esteem and confidence. When you can regain a sense of agility or overcome new challenges for the first time, your self image soars with new confidence and certainty. And that sense of self gets translated to everything you do.
And finally there is the obvious health benefit. After all, how may articles, TV shows, books, infomercials and experts do you need to encounter before you believe that regular physical exercise heads off maladies of every sort and builds resistance to the aging process in total? Exercise is not only necessary for a long and vibrant life, it is required.
So what stories – and the lessons from those stories – will you tell your kids or grandkids at the coming Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner? Will it be about when you were young (like them) – or will it be about what new adventure you took on in the past year?
Sugar. Frightening, but many don’t know that it can be more addictive than drugs like heroin or cocaine! Sugar addiction grows slowly, over time, like a thick vine steadily creeps over a tree choking and eventually killing it. Though sugar is deadly and dangerous, many of us continue to ignore the dangers until we are finally robbed of our health.
Do you crave sugar? Is sugar on your mind all day? Do visions of chocolates, sugary cereals or colorful snack packs dance in your head? If you secretly admit these cravings, or if this describes someone you know and love (your child, parent or best friend) – please read on.
A sure sign of sugar addiction is when a person feels moody when they don’t eat sugar. The smell, sight or touch of sugary foods can give you an instant high or rush and spark a craving. And when you are not eating sugar, you’re thinking about it. You can literally not go one day without it. And worse, when you eat sugar you tend to indulge or eat too much.
At The Renewal Point we have helped hundreds of people break the grip of this powerful obsession.
Once identified, we are relentless in resolving this common issue because it most often leads to even more devastating health problems such as obesity (and the poor self esteem associated with it), heart disease, diabetes and depression.
If you or someone you love is experiencing sugar addiction or its associated and dangerous implications, it is critical to find a physician with expertise in this field. For example, powerful brain chemicals and hormone imbalances must be corrected; and, specialized support for behavioral changes is a must. Meanwhile, medication to correct addictive cravings and depression is often necessary. Under Dr. Watts’ direction, we offer all of this.
The Renewal Point invites you to attend our next complimentary educational seminar and meet Dr. Watts and his staff. Please join us and bring your family and friends. You’ll hear the latest science and solutions for breaking sugar and carb urges. This positive message is sure to give you hope!
Guys, there’s really good news on testosterone replacement and it is changing the way we think about our hormones.
Testosterone replacement is now being endorsed by Harvard doctors, the New England Journal of Medicine, and researchers at the University of Cambridge and Royal Marsden Hospital in London. Long known to increase virility, sexuality, brain power, and energy, testosterone has been used by men seeking an “anti-aging tonic.” But the questions safety and risk still lingered in the minds of many.
After years of research and extensive literature reviews, it is clear that low testosterone levels are not good for men. And, that restoring testosterone to optimum healthy levels turns back the clock for our aging symptoms. Here are some of these breakthrough studies that I’m excited about:
Researchers at the University of Cambridge studied 12,000 men for 10 years to see if testosterone levels were a factor in men’s health. They found that men with the lower serum testosterone levels had a marked increase in heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, weight problems and cancers of all types including prostate cancer. When they restored testosterone to optimal levels in these men they found a reversal of all these degenerative aging problems (American Heart Journal of Circulation, Nov 2007).
At the same time that this research was being done in Cambridge, Harvard Urologists were reviewing the medical literature for 60 years back and were also testing men for prostate cancer. Their research proved the exact same thing. Men with lower testosterone levels were at a higher risk for all prostate problems (i.e.: benign prostatic hypertrophy and prostate cancer). Restoring these men to optimal levels did not increase their risk; it lowered it! (New England Journal of Medicine, 07).
Now men can literally “have their cake and eat it too”. At the Renewal Point, we have long promoted testosterone replacement for men. Our research and experience had shown what is now being printed in the most prestigious of medical literatures. We can continue to feel confident that by restoring our testosterone levels as we age we can enjoy a return to our youth, virility, and sexuality. And a big bonus comes as well: decreasing the risk of the degenerative health problems which plague us all.
To your good health,
Dr. Dan Watts.
While a balanced diet and moderate exercise program is certainly necessary for healthy weight loss, many people express frustration as they describe “even though I’m following a strict diet plan and an exercise routine, I still can’t seem to lose the weight”.
Why is that true for so many? It’s about your metabolism.
Even the best weight loss plan can fall short or fail when your metabolism is not working for you. It may seem unjust, but as you gain in wisdom and age, your metabolism begins to slow. As your metabolism changes, you gain unwanted pounds around the middle and the thighs. Throw in our modern day lifestyle of skipping meals, restricting calories, unhealthy diets, stress, sugar, carb cravings and junk food binging and you set up a condition of slowing the metabolism even more.
At The Renewal Point, our answer is to balance your metabolism and hormones, and, if necessary, to test for food sensitivites that could be causing an inflammatory response in your body. This is the primary difference in our approach to weight loss. By readjusting your body to work for you, rather than against you, you’ll see that weight loss becomes possible, and much easier.
Let us help you or someone you love. Find out about our innovative and healthy way to lose weight.
