Learn about the dangers of Estrogen Mimics.
(CNN) — Glyphosate, an herbicide that remains the world’s most ubiquitous weed killer, raises the cancer risk of those exposed to it by 41%, a new analysis says. While the potential carcinogenic properties are the subject of widespread debate, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans”
CNN went on to report on thousands of people suing the multinational chemical company that makes Glyphosate for having caused cancer. One high-profile case against the chemical company was that of Dewayne Johnson, a former school groundskeeper diagnosed with terminal non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2014. In August 2018, a judge ordered the company to pay Johnson $289 million.
According to a research article recently printed in ‘Food Chem Toxicology’, Glyphosate showed potential adverse effects to humans in that it may be an endocrine disruptor. Their research showed that “Glyphosate exerted proliferative effects in human hormone-dependent breast cancer. “These results indicated that low and environmentally relevant concentrations of glyphosate possessed estrogenic activity.
Endocrine disruptors, sometimes called estrogen mimics, are chemicals that interfere with the body’s endocrine system and produce adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological, and immune effects in both humans and wildlife. Glyphosate joins a long list of substances that may also cause endocrine disruption and cancer, including dioxins, PCBs, DDT, BPAs, and others.
In addition to increasing risk for cancer, endocrine disruptors are known to cause of a great deal more medical problems in both men and women.
Men: lower sperm count, breast development (gynecomastia), infertility, erectile dysfunction, shrinkage of penis and gonads, delayed puberty, gaining weight around hips and breast, lack of stamina and drive, lower libido.
Women: early puberty, weight gain around hips and tummy, infertility, ovarian cysts, breast cysts, hormone imbalances i.e. heavy bleeding and irregular periods, endometriosis, PCOS, uterine fibroids, adenomyosis.
At The Renewal Point, we are experts in hormone balancing as it relates to environmental endocrine disrupters. For years, we have been detecting and correcting the root cause of hormone abnormalities in both men and women. Many patients who come to us have already been diagnosed with breast cancer or some other hormone-related malady and are looking for the WHY. If you suspect you may be suffering from the effects of these hormone disruptors, we are here to help.

Because, with the “calories in, calories, out” approach, it usually is…
“Only about one in every six Americans who have ever been overweight or obese loses weight and maintains that loss”, according to Penn State College of Medicine researchers.
For a long time, weight loss was simplified with a “calories in, calories out” approach…eat less, exercise more. However, as we age, this approach can be a lot like trying to stop a freight train with your pinkie finger….it simply won’t work.
While eating less addresses some of the underlying causes of weight gain, the high failure rate of dieting is partially attributable to the severe alteration in hormone levels that occur as part of normal aging. It’s no wonder that without correcting these imbalances, losing weight can be extremely frustrating, if not impossible.
This is why, at The Renewal Point, we recommend that those who are interested in weight loss also have their hormone levels checked and balanced through bio-identical hormones. In a recent study, the group of patients treated with natural, bio-Identical hormones, saw a significant drop in free fat mass without the addition of exercise or calorie restriction. However, what researchers also found was that it was most important what type of hormone replacement therapy was used. In a study by O’Sullivan et al, the participants taking synthetic, drug hormone therapy actually gained weight!
While this study does bring to light the importance of bio-hormone balancing in and of itself, a combination of the Four Cornerstones (Bio-identical Hormone Balancing, Nutrition, Physical Conditioning, and Toxin Elimination) is what we’ve found to make the biggest impact for long-term weight loss and overall quality of life.
By addressing the Four Cornerstones, we are able to reset your metabolism, break carb and/or sugar addiction, rebuild muscle, rebalance the immune system, and reduce inflammatory symptoms. And, maybe best of all, when our bodies are in balance, it can reduce depression, anxiety, and mood swings…giving a whole new outlook on life!
If you have had it with the “calories in, calories out” approach and are looking for a more long-term solution that works with your body’s natural processes, we are here to help! Toxins, nutrients, age, genetics….these all play a role in how our brains function. We actually have a lot more control over brain power than previously thought! Watch this semianr to learn more about the things that you can do to optimize your brain.
Your body’s hormones (estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, cortisol, etc) produced in various glands of your body act as “messengers,” sending signals to your cells to function, grow, regulate or balance important body processes. Though it is well-known that the levels of some of these hormones fall as we get older, it is not common knowledge that almost all of these hormones diminish during the course of life or change dramatically to life’s stresses. As hormone levels fall or fluctuate, they cause the signs and symptoms of PMS, menopause, and disease.
An article I read recently by Dr. Frank Shallenberger on a Nobel Prize winning scientist grabbed my attention. Although this article pertains to all of us, if you suffer from memory problems, it may be the most exciting news you read this year.
Not long ago, Rita Levi-Montalcini celebrated her 103rd birthday. During the festivities she made a speech. She said: “my mental capacity is greater today than when I was 20.” Normally when I read a story like this, I smile and I say “God bless her.” And then I turn the page.
But in this case, I took Rita’s comments very seriously; and so did the rest of the medical world. You see, Rita was a famous doctor who devoted her life to studying the human brain. In fact, her brain discoveries were so important that they earned her the Nobel Prize in medicine!
A Discovery That’s Changing The World
Dr. Rita Levi-Montalcini won the Nobel Prize for discovering a protein called nerve growth factor (NGF). Since her discovery, hundreds of studies have been done on NGF. These studies show that NGF has a whole host of benefits: it reverses age-related memory loss and cognitive decline, it helps with the survival and maintenance of brain cells, it protects and repairs damaged brain cells, and it prevents your brain from shrinking as you get older. MRI studies on patients with high NGF actually show a significant decrease in brain shrinkage!
A Simple Way to Boost NGF
Want to boost NGF in order to reverse or slow down memory loss and cognitive decline? Dr Dale Bredesen, Professor of Neurology, University of California, LA, and author of The End of Alzheimer’s tells us how… “by balancing the body’s hormones”. His breakthrough protocols, which have now helped thousands of patients, are used by many other centers of excellence, including The Cleveland Clinic and Sarasota’s own Roskamp Institute.
However, keep in mind that, simply adding a ‘one size fits all’ hormone like an estrogen patch or progesterone pill will not do. All the hormones need to be in balance to promote optimal NGF.
Balancing hormones for cognition is like conducting a symphony orchestra and requires a similar expertise. If one of the instruments is out of rhythm or tune, it will ruin the sound of all the other instruments . All the hormones (15+) must be optimized; symptomatology plus individualized blood or salivary panels must be monitored closely.

L.B. was at her wits’ end and about to “throw in the towel” when a friend recommended her to The Renewal Point. A 55-year-old mother of one and long-time resident of Sarasota, L.B was doing fine until menopause and thyroid imbalances disrupted her life. “I was exhausted during the day, then couldn’t sleep at night. I was depressed as well from having gained a ton of weight. A complete loss of sexual desire and painful sex had put a dent in my loving relationship with my husband. I had seen several doctors for hormone imbalance, trying different pills, patches, and creams to no avail. They were unable to regulate my hormones.”
“Thanks to a long-term friend who referred me to Dr. Dan Watts and Helena Williams, Nurse Practitioner, at The Renewal Point, I have now been a patient for over eight years and cannot believe what a difference it has made in my relationship with my husband. I feel like I have set the clock back years! (My husband loves it too) 😉 There is nothing like looking and feeling great! I even sleep better.”
What happened to L.B.?
Hormones are incredible chemical messengers in our body that affect everything – our brain, heart, bones, muscles, skin and sexuality. An essential part of the workings of every cell in the human body, hormones work best when balanced. Unfortunately, as you age, it’s inevitable as clock-work; your hormones will fall. And when hormones do fall, you feel sluggish, moody, gain weight (even if you are exercising and eating right). It can also impair your memory and libido–among other things. Simply put, hormonal imbalances keep you from feeling like yourself.
What to do?
Here’s the good news! When hormones are rebalanced back to more youthful levels, you can regain your sexual vitality, sleep better, have more energy, and just feel better.
If you are experiencing any of the symptoms below, it may be time to seek medical help concerning your hormonal balance.
Hot Flashes Night sweats Bloating
Weight Gain Muscle Loss Forgetfulness
Fatigue Insomnia Vaginal Dryness
Mood Swings Depression Painful Intercourse
Anxiety Irritability Osteoporosis
Difficulty Concentrating Irregular Periods Low Energy
Low Sex Drive Aging Skin Foggy Thinking

Due to the sensitive nature of hormone balancing, it is imperative that you work in partnership with an experienced provider and program.
With the expertise of Dr. Watts, an individual hormone management program is created for each patient. As hormone balancing is both an art and science, it requires individualized therapy and ongoing dosing changes based not only on a patient’s diagnostic lab values, but also their symptoms.

Metabolic and Hormone Balancing have been found to be major components in long term weight loss! This video will help you better understand:
– What contributes to yo-yo weight fluctuations and why many people struggle to lose weight, despite their best efforts.
– How hormones can make it or break it when it comes to weight loss- almost everyone who has a weight problem has hidden imbalances, making it practically impossible to lose weight
– Our detect and correct method- we first use laboratory tests to find out what’s holding you back, then we create a customized plan for you!
We are talking UTIs, yeast infections, dryness, low libido hormone imbalances…the list goes on and on.
Recurring gynecological problems aren’t just a bother…they can really get in the way of leading a happy, healthy, productive life. In fact, gynecological issues can contribute to emotional trouble, relationship/intimacy problems, and physical issues (for example, yeast infections and UTIs don’t mix well with exercise).
While almost all women deal with some sort of gynecological issue during their lifetime, the problems really start to get in the way when they are recurring. While getting rid of the symptoms can help in the short term, treating the cause of the problem at the source is imperative for long term success…
Enter… Integrative Gynecological Care
Let’s see how Integrative Gynecological Care helped L.B.
A 68 year old mother of two and grandmother came to our office after 2 years of having chronic yellow vaginal discharge. During those 2 years she had been seen and treated by several different providers with no success. After an exam and consultation, it was evident that she had also been dealing with recurring urinary tract infections, painful intercourse, vaginal dryness (which was masked by the discharge), group b strep, and vaginal atrophy from a hormone imbalance. The significant vaginal atrophy was the contributing factor to the recurrent UTI infections. A multifaceted, integrative approach was taken…one month of daily compounded vaginal suppositories with specific antibiotics, vaginal estrogen, and topical steroids…to address all the issues. At her 6 week follow up, the patient was delighted that all the symptoms were gone and she was pleasantly enjoying intimacy with her spouse after 2 years. A future plan of care included vaginal probiotics to keep normal flora present, as well as a list of preventive vaginal health routines.
In this case above, the patient came to me after seeing several other providers. However, many times we work together with a patient’s current provider to come up with the best long term solution. We are here to help and we aim to do whatever is best for your situation!
At The Renewal Point, we provide Integrative Gynecology in a private, comfortable environment with time to address any concerns from various angles. While we provide the standard GYN testing, and assessments, we can also address any concerns about other areas of health – emotional, physical, mental health concerns.
If you are interested in learning more about our services or how we can address your specific issues, we encourage you to call us at 941-96-4905, visit our website at therenewalpoint.com, email us at info@therenewalpoint.com, or come to our upcoming seminar!

While these are great goals for the New Year, choosing a gym or a trainer, for those of us over 40 or those of us suffering with musculo-skeletal aches and pains, a regular gym may not be our best choice.
For those who wish to remain physically active the rest of their lives, life can get in the way; statistically: 8 out of 10 will develop back pain, 7 out of 10 shoulder instability, and 5 out of 10 hip or knee pain. Eventually, these statistics can lead to surgery or disability. So how can we mitigate these facts? Let’s see what Terri B. chose to do, in her own words.
“After an MRI revealed several things wrong with my knee, I assumed surgery was required. I entered the CKC Fitness program at The Renewal Point to address the feet and body alignment issues that Dr. Luedeka said were the root cause of my current knee issues and to hopefully prevent a future knee replacement. I received far more from my participation in the CKC program than I anticipated….I am stronger, have better balance, more endurance, and a leaner body than I have for years. All of this happened at a much faster pace than I ever would have guessed.”
There is a lot of misleading information out there when it comes to your health. It is especially important for you to know what is really True North in the exercise industry. If you are looking for the correct information and the right care…the medical exercise facility at The Renewal Point may be just what you need.
While I advocate exercise for every able body, many of us require the advantages of a medical exercise program, one that a regular gym simply cannot offer.
There are several important differences between The Renewal Point medical fitness program and other gyms.
- Gyms are not medically guided. The Renewal Point medical staff is qualified to teach proven, science evidence-based techniques in an individually-customized program, which insures safety and effectiveness with a high level of oversight.
- Gyms may not require a high level of certification or training. The Renewal Point medical staff is degreed and certified. You have, at your disposal, a Medical Doctor, Masters level Nutritionist, Doctor of Physical Therapy, CKC Certified Fitness Trainer, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner and professional nursing staff, all working together to provide effective physical conditioning programs.
- Gyms cannot offer exercise programs for disease management. With our qualified medical staff, The Renewal Point focuses on prevention strategies and disease management for conditions such as: degenerative joint disease; back, shoulder, knee and hip pain; as well as cardiovascular, pulmonary and metabolic diseases.
- The Renewal Point staff is experienced in integrating your fitness program with our already successful hormone balancing, nutritional counseling and medical weight management programs. Again, these services are simply not available at a gym.
- Our CKC Fitness Training Program, designed and directed by Dr. Dave Luedeka, MS, DPT, and carried out by Matt Jones, ACSM/CPT, has already helped hundreds of patients recover from neck and low back pain, shoulder instability, knee and hip disabilities. CKC Fitness or Closed Kinetic Chain Fitness is a state-of-the art strength and conditioning program that can help the average person to the injured to the athlete. CKC works by forcing the muscles, tendons, and joints which become broken down by aging, trauma, and wear to realign and reintegrate.
To learn more about this groundbreaking program, we encourage you to come to an upcoming seminar. For more information, to schedule an appointment, or RSVP to a seminar…you can call us at 941-926-4905, email us at info@therenewalpoint.com, or visit our website at TheRenewalPoint.com.
